It is vital to know how to choose the right person who will take care of their children, especially when the reality of today is that both parents go to work, study or social commitments. There are many aspects that must be taken into account before starting the delicate hiring process. And even when a specialized agency is contracted to do the most meticulous part, it will be the parents who decide who they will hire because it is about the welfare of their loved ones.

In our experience dating back to 1999, choosing a good nanny will depend on matching the profile of the family with the nanny, hence the importance of completing the nanny application form, this being the starting point to start the process of recruitment.

What elements should we consider to hire a nanny?

Where does the employer work?

It is very different if the employer works from home or goes to work. The requirements and the profile of the position become absolutely different.

  • The academic preparation of the babysitter: this is important if in addition to housework, parents ask for support with their children’s homework.
  • The vocation for the care of children: this will be reflected in the relationship and bonds of friendship that the nanny achieves with them. Attentive parents will notice and confirm when they return from their jobs.
  • The discretion: the nanny should fit the profile of the family without trespassing privacy spaces.
  • The curriculum: it is basic but essential to have experience, with labor and personal references, criminal records and identification documents.
  • Environment of the nanny: knowing whether or not she is a mother, how she takes care of her own children, where she lives, whether she has vices or not, what are her hobbies, customs, way of speaking, dressing and grooming.
  • Additional training: such as in child care, food handling, healthy food and first aid.
  • The age of the nanny: it must be compatible with the need of their children; it is not the same if at home there are babies, kindergarten children, school or college. The nanny must have the age, maturity, emotional intelligence and physical strength to deal with them.
  • Nursery education: We are all very marked by the education we bring from our own home, the character and the desire for improvement that each one brings, only with a smart and well planned personal interview can be inquired about these aspects.

These are only some of the most important aspects, so it is worth making conscience if the parents decide to do the process on their own or if they get help with a specialized and responsible agency to hire their nanny.
